Building the Future

The Sisters of Our Lady of Grace are moving into the future and have decided to build a new monastery.  We will be rebuilding on the same property at 1402 Southern Ave, Beech Grove.  The sisters will continue to live in the current monastery.  The monastery and the Benedict Inn Retreat & Conference Center will be taken down once the new monastery is completed.

The Benedict Inn officially closed on May 31, 2024.

Read about our future plans in the Criterion, our Archdiocesan paper.

Before construction can begin on our new monastery, a wing of our current monastery must be taken down. Since March, we have been vacating that section by relocating some sisters’ bedrooms to empty bedrooms in the monastery. We also made plans to move the healthcare wing where our Senior Sisters reside and other common rooms. We have been sorting through and donating many items we no longer need to various organizations and families.

A large section of the first floor of the Benedict Inn was prepared to be the temporary living quarters for our sisters in healthcare. And the former dining room of the Benedict Inn was prepared to be the temporary location for our Physical Therapy and Exercise rooms.

During the week of June 10th, with the help of many sisters, oblates, students from local schools and friends of our community, we moved these areas to their temporary locations.

The Sunday after the big move of St. Joe Hall (our healthcare area) and the sisters to their new living space, our Prioress, Sr. Julie Sewell blessed their new home. She blessed all of the common areas and then each sister and their new bedrooms.

This is the first step in our journey towards a new monastery. We humbly ask of your prayers as we continue this exciting adventure.
