Sr. Anna Marie Megel
1945 ~ 2025





Sr. Anna Marie Megel (formerly Janet Elizabeth), 80, died peacefully on April 14, 2025 after complications from heart surgery. She was born in Seymour, Indiana on January 26, 1945 to John and Anna Mae (Hester) Megel. Sr. Anna Marie entered Our Lady of Grace Monastery on September 7, 1965 and made her Perpetual Monastic Profession in 1972.
She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in Ferdinand, Indiana, and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Indianapolis and a Master’s Degree in Education from Ball State University. Sr. Ann Marie was an educator and began her teaching career at St. Barnabas School, Indianapolis. She also taught at St. Anthony School, Clarksville, Indiana and St. Paul School, Tell City, Indiana. In 1979 Sr. Ann Marie began missionary work in Cali, Columbia for ten years. Upon her return she worked in Healthcare at Our Lady of Grace Monastery and then in 1991 entered back into missionary work in Peru, South America. In 2003 she ministered to the Hispanic Community at St. Monica Church, Indianapolis, Indiana and in 2017 she worked in Pastoral Care at St. Paul Hermitage (now Envive) until her retirement in 2023.
Sr. Anna Marie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sisters, Dottie Davis, Carmel, Indiana, Jane Graf, Memphis, Indiana, Teresa Pierce, Louisville, Kentucky, Mary Weber, North Vernon, Indiana; her brothers, Dan and Mike Megel both of North Vernon, Indiana. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her Benedictine Community.
Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Grace Monastery on Tuesday, April 22nd from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A wake service will be held at 7:00 PM in the Monastery Chapel. Her funeral Mass will be at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, April 23rd with visitation from 2:00 PM until the funeral.
